Canon inkjets (PIXMA, MAXIFY and the G-series MegaTank) show a four-character support code on the screen or in the printer driver, and some display-less models show a short code such as E05 or P07 instead. Below are 124 Canon codes, covering 40 model series. Each one explains what the code means, what you can safely try, and when it needs a technician, with a link to the Canon page it comes from.
Codes are model-specific, so your own model's manual is the final word. Reviewed October 2026.

ON and Alarm lamps flash alternately: Printer error (count the flashes)
π§ Fixable with care
Also appears as: P-codes on LCD models (P02, P07, P08, P10 ...)
On the PIXMA G1010 series, alternate flashing of the ON and Alarm lamps means a printer error. The number of flashes identifies it: 2 = 5100, 3 = 6000, 5 = 5700, 6 = 5400, 7 = 5B00/5B01, 8 = 5200/5205/5206, 9 = 6800/6801, 10 = B202-B205 (needs repair).
- Count the number of alternating flashes and note the matching support code, which is also shown on the computer screen.
- For most of these codes Canon says to turn the printer off, unplug it, plug it back in and turn it on.
- 7 flashes (5B00/5B01) and 10 flashes (B202-B205): Canon says to contact a service center for repair.
- If any code persists after a power reset, contact your nearest Canon service center.
When it needs a technician: Always for 7 or 10 flashes. For the others, if a full power reset does not clear it.
