Canon Support Code 6000: Printer error (check for a paper jam first)

🧭 Fixable with care

Canon lists the cause of 6000 as "Printer error has occurred." Canon's first step is to check for and clear any jammed paper, then do a full power reset.

What to try

  1. If paper is jammed, remove it as described for the jam's location (see Canon's "List of Support Code for Error (Paper Jams)" for your model).
  2. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  3. Plug the printer in again and turn it back on.
  4. If this does not solve it, contact your nearest Canon service center to request a repair.

When it needs a technician

If there is no jam and the code returns after a full power reset, Canon says the printer needs repair.

Which models show 6000

Canon documents this code for models including PIXMA TS3300 series, PIXMA TS3100 series, PIXMA G3010 series, PIXMA G2010 series, PIXMA TS6300 series, PIXMA MG3600 series.

First steps for any printer error

  1. Write down the exact code before you do anything else β€” similar-looking codes often mean completely different things.
  2. Power the printer off, unplug it for a couple of minutes, then power it back on. A surprising number of transient errors clear here.
  3. Open the covers and check for paper scraps, packaging material, or anything blocking the carriage.
  4. Check the cartridges or tanks are genuine, correctly seated, and not empty.
  5. Confirm the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip or extension lead.
  6. Check your model’s own manual β€” codes are model-specific, and the manual is the authority for your machine.
