Canon Support Code 1700: Ink absorber is almost full (warning)
Also shows as: 1701, 1702, 1703, 1704, 1705, 1712, 1713, 1714, 1715 (same cause and fix); E08 on LCD; alarm lamp flashes 8 times (PIXMA G1010 series)
Canon says the ink absorber is almost full. This is the pad that soaks up ink used in cleaning and similar processes. You can keep printing for now by pressing the button, but Canon says to contact a service center.
What to try
- Press the printer's OK button (Black or Color on G-series and some PIXMA models) to continue printing.
- Contact your nearest Canon service center to request a repair before the absorber is full.
- Expect a full-stop code (5B00 family) later if the absorber is not dealt with.
When it needs a technician
Canon's instruction is to contact a service center. Once the absorber is full the printer stops (support code 5B00 / P07).

First steps for any printer error
- Write down the exact code before you do anything else β similar-looking codes often mean completely different things.
- Power the printer off, unplug it for a couple of minutes, then power it back on. A surprising number of transient errors clear here.
- Open the covers and check for paper scraps, packaging material, or anything blocking the carriage.
- Check the cartridges or tanks are genuine, correctly seated, and not empty.
- Confirm the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip or extension lead.
- Check your modelβs own manual β codes are model-specific, and the manual is the authority for your machine.
