Canon Support Code 2900: Print head alignment sheet could not be scanned
Also shows as: E57 (LCD code on display-less models)
During automatic print head alignment, the printer could not scan the alignment sheet.
What to try
- Press the printer's OK button (Black or Color on some models).
- Make sure the alignment sheet is placed in the correct position and orientation on the platen glass.
- Make sure the platen glass and the alignment sheet are clean.
- Make sure A4 or Letter-size plain paper is loaded.
- Print a nozzle check pattern to confirm the print head nozzles are not clogged, then run automatic print head alignment again.
- If it still fails, Canon suggests trying manual print head alignment.
When it needs a technician
Canon does not list this as a repair item. Clogged nozzles that cleaning will not clear are a separate print-head issue.

First steps for any printer error
- Write down the exact code before you do anything else — similar-looking codes often mean completely different things.
- Power the printer off, unplug it for a couple of minutes, then power it back on. A surprising number of transient errors clear here.
- Open the covers and check for paper scraps, packaging material, or anything blocking the carriage.
- Check the cartridges or tanks are genuine, correctly seated, and not empty.
- Confirm the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip or extension lead.
- Check your model’s own manual — codes are model-specific, and the manual is the authority for your machine.
