Canon Support Code 1471: Print head cannot be recognized

Also shows as: 1472, 1473 (same cause and steps on the same models); E05, E14, E15 on small-LCD models

🧭 Fixable with care

On MegaTank G-series printers, a print head may not be installed properly or may not be compatible with the printer.

What to try

  1. Press Stop to cancel any print job in progress.
  2. Open the scanning unit / cover and close the ink valve if your model has one.
  3. Open the print head locking cover and remove the color and black print heads without touching the gold contacts or nozzles.
  4. Reinstall the color head on the left and the black head on the right, close the locking cover until it clicks and press both joint buttons firmly.
  5. Open the ink valve again (if fitted) and close the scanning unit / cover.

When it needs a technician

If the steps above do not clear it, Canon says to contact your nearest Canon service center to request a repair.

Which models show 1471

Canon documents this code for models including PIXMA G6000 series, PIXMA G3010 series, PIXMA G7000 series.

First steps for any printer error

  1. Write down the exact code before you do anything else β€” similar-looking codes often mean completely different things.
  2. Power the printer off, unplug it for a couple of minutes, then power it back on. A surprising number of transient errors clear here.
  3. Open the covers and check for paper scraps, packaging material, or anything blocking the carriage.
  4. Check the cartridges or tanks are genuine, correctly seated, and not empty.
  5. Confirm the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip or extension lead.
  6. Check your model’s own manual β€” codes are model-specific, and the manual is the authority for your machine.
