Canon Support Code 5200: Printer error (ink system)
Also shows as: P08 (LCD / alarm-lamp code on PIXMA G2010 and G1010 series, with 5205 and 5206)
Canon lists the cause as "Printer error has occurred." On most cartridge models the fix is a full power reset. On G-series ink-tank models Canon gives a longer, ordered procedure that includes checking ink levels and running cleaning and Ink Flush.
What to try
- Cartridge models (for example TS3300): turn off the printer, unplug it, wait a while, then plug it in and turn it back on.
- G-series ink-tank models (for example G3010), in this order: check the ink levels and refill if needed.
- Then turn the printer off, unplug it, plug it back in and turn it on.
- Then run print head Cleaning, followed by Ink Flush. Canon says Deep Cleaning is not needed, and changing or skipping steps may cause other problems.
- If it comes back on a G-series model, Canon says replacing the print heads may fix it. If it continues after that, or on cartridge models after the power reset, contact a Canon service center.
When it needs a technician
If the error persists after Canon's steps (and, on G-series, after a print head replacement), Canon says to request a repair.

First steps for any printer error
- Write down the exact code before you do anything else β similar-looking codes often mean completely different things.
- Power the printer off, unplug it for a couple of minutes, then power it back on. A surprising number of transient errors clear here.
- Open the covers and check for paper scraps, packaging material, or anything blocking the carriage.
- Check the cartridges or tanks are genuine, correctly seated, and not empty.
- Confirm the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip or extension lead.
- Check your modelβs own manual β codes are model-specific, and the manual is the authority for your machine.
