Canon Error E03: Paper jam (or cover open)

Also shows as: Support code 1300 (and 1203 on TS3100 / E3100); alarm lamp flashes 3 times on PIXMA G1010 series

✅ Usually fixable yourself

Paper is jammed (support code 1300). On TS3100 / E3100-type models, E03 can also mean the cover is open (support code 1203).

What to try

  1. If the cover was opened during printing (1203): pull out any paper left inside slowly with both hands, close the cover and press OK. Canon warns not to open or close the cover during printing.
  2. If paper is jammed, follow Canon's steps for support code 1300: pull the paper out slowly with both hands from the output slot or rear tray.
  3. Reload paper and press the printer's button to resume.

When it needs a technician

Only if the jam clears but the code keeps returning. Canon then says to contact a service center.

First steps for any printer error

  1. Write down the exact code before you do anything else — similar-looking codes often mean completely different things.
  2. Power the printer off, unplug it for a couple of minutes, then power it back on. A surprising number of transient errors clear here.
  3. Open the covers and check for paper scraps, packaging material, or anything blocking the carriage.
  4. Check the cartridges or tanks are genuine, correctly seated, and not empty.
  5. Confirm the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip or extension lead.
  6. Check your model’s own manual — codes are model-specific, and the manual is the authority for your machine.
