Canon Support Code B502: Printer error (MAXIFY)
Also shows as: B504 (same instructions)
On MAXIFY MB-series printers, Canon lists the cause of B502 only as "Printer error has occurred." Canon's fix is a full power reset, and a repair if that does not clear it.
What to try
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Plug the printer in again and turn it back on.
- If the code comes back, contact your nearest Canon service center to request a repair.
- Canon warns that unplugging deletes all faxes stored in the printer's memory.
When it needs a technician
If the code is still there after a full power reset, Canon says to request a repair from a Canon service center.
Which models show B502
Canon documents this code for models including MAXIFY MB2700 series, MAXIFY MB5100 series, MAXIFY MB2100 series, MAXIFY MB5400 series.
First steps for any printer error
- Write down the exact code before you do anything else β similar-looking codes often mean completely different things.
- Power the printer off, unplug it for a couple of minutes, then power it back on. A surprising number of transient errors clear here.
- Open the covers and check for paper scraps, packaging material, or anything blocking the carriage.
- Check the cartridges or tanks are genuine, correctly seated, and not empty.
- Confirm the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip or extension lead.
- Check your modelβs own manual β codes are model-specific, and the manual is the authority for your machine.
