Carrier and Bryant Furnace Error Codes

Carrier and Bryant gas furnaces share control boards. The board LED flashes a two-digit status code, such as 31 or 33, which you read through the small window in the blower door. Below are 21 Carrier and Bryant codes across 3 model series. Each one says what it means, which series it applies to, what you can safely check, and when to call a licensed pro, with a link to the Carrier and Bryant document it comes from.

The same code can mean different things on different series, so match the series column to your unit. Your unit's manual is the final word. Reviewed October 2026.

More Carrier and Bryant codes

Carrier and Bryant LED on: Status LED steady on (normal)

βœ… Usually fine to keep running

Applies to: Carrier 59SC5A single-stage 4-way multipoise condensing gas furnace (Series 1 and 2). Shows as: Status LED is continuously on

The status LED is steady on. The service label says the control has 24VAC power. This is normal when there is no fault.

When to call a pro: No action is needed unless the furnace is not heating. If it is not heating, check the thermostat and call a pro if it persists.

Carrier and Bryant 12: Blower on after power up

βœ… Usually fine to keep running

Applies to: Carrier 59SC5A single-stage 4-way multipoise condensing gas furnace (Series 1 and 2). Shows as: Status LED flashes: first digit is short flashes, second digit is long flashes

The blower runs for 90 seconds if the unit is powered up during a call for heat, or if the thermostat call for heat opens during the blower on-delay.

When to call a pro: No action is needed. This code is informational and the blower stops by itself after 90 seconds.

Carrier and Bryant 23: Pressure switch did not open

πŸ›‘ Turn it off and call a licensed pro

Applies to: Carrier 59SC5A single-stage 4-way multipoise condensing gas furnace (Series 1 and 2). Shows as: Status LED flashes: first digit is short flashes, second digit is long flashes

The pressure switch did not open when expected. The label says to check for obstructed pressure tubing or a pressure switch stuck closed.

When to call a pro: Call a licensed technician to inspect the pressure tubing and test the pressure switch.

Carrier and Bryant 25: Model selection or setup error

πŸ›‘ Turn it off and call a licensed pro

Applies to: Carrier 59TP6A two-stage variable speed ECM multipoise condensing gas furnace (Series 2, and Series 3 80-20, 100-20, 120-22). Shows as: Status LED flashes: first digit is short flashes, second digit is long flashes

Either the model plug (PL4) is missing or incorrect, or setup switch SW1-1 or SW1-6 is positioned improperly. The control may default to the model stored in memory.

When to call a pro: Call a licensed technician. Setup switches, the model plug and the control programming are installer settings.

Carrier and Bryant 43: Low-heat pressure switch open while high-heat switch is closed

πŸ›‘ Turn it off and call a licensed pro

Applies to: Carrier 59TP6A two-stage variable speed ECM multipoise condensing gas furnace (Series 2, and Series 3 80-20, 100-20, 120-22). Shows as: Status LED flashes: first digit is short flashes, second digit is long flashes

The low-heat pressure switch is open while the high-heat pressure switch is closed. The label lists a plugged condensate drain, low inlet gas pressure, improper pressure switch wiring, water in the vent piping and a stuck open low-heat pressure switch.

When to call a pro: Call a licensed technician to test the pressure switches, tubing, venting and condensate drain.

Source: Carrier 59TP6A Installation, Start-up, Operating and Service and Maintenance Instructions, Fig. 63 Service Label, p.73

πŸ›‘ Turn it off and call a licensed pro

Applies to: Bryant 926TC two-stage variable-speed ECM multipoise condensing gas furnace. Shows as: Status LED flashes: first digit is short flashes, second digit is long flashes; display shows 43.1

The high pressure switch (HPS) is closed before the low pressure switch (LPS).

When to call a pro: Call a licensed technician to test the pressure switches and check the venting.

Source: Bryant 926TC Installation, Start-up, Operating and Service and Maintenance Instructions, Service Label (Status Code Table), p.56

Carrier and Bryant 15: Lockout, no blower RPM detected

πŸ›‘ Turn it off and call a licensed pro

Applies to: Bryant 926TC two-stage variable-speed ECM multipoise condensing gas furnace. Shows as: Status LED flashes: first digit is short flashes, second digit is long flashes; display shows 15.1

The control locked out because no blower RPM was detected.

When to call a pro: Call a licensed technician to check the blower motor and wiring.

Source: Bryant 926TC Installation, Start-up, Operating and Service and Maintenance Instructions, Service Label (Status Code Table), p.56

Carrier and Bryant 41: Blower RPM fault

πŸ›‘ Turn it off and call a licensed pro

Applies to: Bryant 926TC two-stage variable-speed ECM multipoise condensing gas furnace. Shows as: Status LED flashes: first digit is short flashes, second digit is long flashes; display shows 41.1 or 41.2

Minor 1 means no blower RPM at start up. Minor 2 means no RPM when the blower motor is running.

When to call a pro: Call a licensed technician to check the blower motor and wiring.

Safe first steps for any code

  1. Count the LED flashes through the blower door window before you switch anything off. Cutting power can clear the code.
  2. Replace or clean the furnace air filter.
  3. Check the thermostat: correct mode, set above room temperature, and fresh batteries.
  4. Make sure the furnace power switch and breaker are on. If the furnace has locked out, turning the power off and back on once restarts it.
  5. Make sure the gas valve is in the ON position, following the lighting instructions on the furnace label only.
  6. On high-efficiency furnaces, look at the outside vent and intake pipes for snow, ice, leaves or nests (look only, do not take pipes apart).

πŸ›‘ Stop and call a licensed pro if

  • You smell gas. Leave the house, do not touch switches, and call your gas utility from outside.
  • Flame rollout, limit or pressure switch codes that come back after one reset.
  • Anything involving the control board, gas valve, flame sensor, igniter or venting.
  • A carbon monoxide alarm sounds. Get everyone outside and call 911 or the fire department.
