HP Error 50: 50.x fuser error
Also shows as: 50.x Fuser Error, 50.XX, 50.00, 50.10, 50.20, 50.30, 50.70
The printer has detected a fuser failure. HP lists 50.00 as a generic fuser error, 50.10 as low fuser temperature, 50.20 as a slow fuser, 50.30 as high fuser temperature and 50.70 as fuser open.
What to try
- Turn the printer off with the power switch and wait at least 30 seconds.
- Turn the printer on and wait for it to initialize.
- If you use a surge protector, turn the printer off, remove the surge protector, plug the printer directly into the wall outlet, and turn it on.
When it needs a technician
If the message stays after restarting, HP says the fuser needs to be replaced and to contact HP support.
Which models show 50
HP documents this code for models including HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401, HP LaserJet Pro M701/M706, HP LaserJet P2050 series, HP LaserJet P3010 series.
Varies by model: On some models HP also suggests turning the printer off for at least 25 minutes before turning it back on (HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401 and M701/M706 control panel messages).
First steps for any printer error
- Write down the exact code before you do anything else β similar-looking codes often mean completely different things.
- Power the printer off, unplug it for a couple of minutes, then power it back on. A surprising number of transient errors clear here.
- Open the covers and check for paper scraps, packaging material, or anything blocking the carriage.
- Check the cartridges or tanks are genuine, correctly seated, and not empty.
- Confirm the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip or extension lead.
- Check your modelβs own manual β codes are model-specific, and the manual is the authority for your machine.
