HP Error 10.0000: 10.x supply memory error (toner cartridge)
Also shows as: 10.000X, 10.100X, 10.1000, Supply memory error, 10.x000 Supply Error
There is a communication failure with a toner cartridge, so its memory chip cannot be read. The last digit shows which cartridge: 0 black, 1 cyan, 2 magenta, 3 yellow.
What to try
- Turn the printer off and then on.
- Check that the toner cartridge is installed correctly.
- Remove the toner cartridge and reinstall it.
- If that does not clear the error, replace the toner cartridge.
When it needs a technician
If the error persists after a new cartridge is installed, HP says to contact HP support.
Which models show 10.0000
HP documents this code for models including HP LaserJet Pro M203, HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401, HP LaserJet Pro M701/M706, HP LaserJet P2050 series.
Varies by model: On the LaserJet Pro 400 M401, HP lists 10.0000 as a memory chip error and 10.1000 as a missing memory chip. On some Color LaserJet Pro models HP ties 10.000X to the imaging drum instead (see code 10.0100 for the toner cartridge message on those models).
First steps for any printer error
- Write down the exact code before you do anything else — similar-looking codes often mean completely different things.
- Power the printer off, unplug it for a couple of minutes, then power it back on. A surprising number of transient errors clear here.
- Open the covers and check for paper scraps, packaging material, or anything blocking the carriage.
- Check the cartridges or tanks are genuine, correctly seated, and not empty.
- Confirm the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip or extension lead.
- Check your model’s own manual — codes are model-specific, and the manual is the authority for your machine.
