HP Error 10.0100: Supply Problem: toner cartridge communication error
Also shows as: 10.010X, Supply Problem, Supply memory error
On these Color LaserJet Pro models, "Supply memory error" or "Supply Problem" with 10.010X means a communication failure with one of the toner cartridges. The last digit shows the color: 0 black, 1 cyan, 2 magenta, 3 yellow. HP notes these printers use dynamic security and are intended for cartridges with an original HP chip.
What to try
- Turn the printer off and then on.
- Check that the toner cartridge is installed correctly.
- Remove the toner cartridge and reinstall it.
- If that does not clear the error, replace the toner cartridge.
When it needs a technician
If the error persists, HP says to contact HP support.
Which models show 10.0100
HP documents this code for models including HP Color LaserJet Pro printers.
Varies by model: In the same HP table, 10.000X, 10.020X, 10.030X and 10.100X with "Supply Problem" point to the imaging drum: restart, reinstall the imaging drum, and replace it if the error continues.
First steps for any printer error
- Write down the exact code before you do anything else — similar-looking codes often mean completely different things.
- Power the printer off, unplug it for a couple of minutes, then power it back on. A surprising number of transient errors clear here.
- Open the covers and check for paper scraps, packaging material, or anything blocking the carriage.
- Check the cartridges or tanks are genuine, correctly seated, and not empty.
- Confirm the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip or extension lead.
- Check your model’s own manual — codes are model-specific, and the manual is the authority for your machine.
