On newer OfficeJet Pro printers this message means the indicated cartridges are not communicating correctly with the printer. A wrong-region or incompatible cartridge is a common cause.
What to try
- Remove a cartridge and check its number against the cartridge list for your printer model and country or region.
- If the number does not match, use the cartridges that came with the printer or buy matching ones.
- If the numbers match, update the printer firmware (Menu > Tools > Maintenance > Firmware > Check, or through the HP Smart app).
- If the latest firmware is already installed, replace the cartridges. In-warranty cartridges may be replaced by HP.
When it needs a technician
If the error continues with correct, new cartridges and current firmware, HP says to contact HP Customer Support.

First steps for any printer error
