Epson Error E-02: Scanner error
Epson lists E-02 as a scanner error on all-in-one models.
What to try
- Turn the printer off and then back on again.
- If the error continues, contact Epson support.
When it needs a technician
If the scanner error does not clear after a restart, Epson says to contact Epson for support.
Which models show E-02
Epson documents this code for models including Expression XP-340, EcoTank ET-2850, EcoTank ET-2760, EcoTank ET-4810, Epson M2170, WorkForce WF-2930, Epson M2140, Stylus NX330.
Varies by model: On the Stylus NX330 Epson calls it a 'fatal scanner error'. In the older Stylus NX420W guide, E-02 is described more generally as a problem with the printer that may clear after turning it off and on.
First steps for any printer error
- Write down the exact code before you do anything else β similar-looking codes often mean completely different things.
- Power the printer off, unplug it for a couple of minutes, then power it back on. A surprising number of transient errors clear here.
- Open the covers and check for paper scraps, packaging material, or anything blocking the carriage.
- Check the cartridges or tanks are genuine, correctly seated, and not empty.
- Confirm the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip or extension lead.
- Check your modelβs own manual β codes are model-specific, and the manual is the authority for your machine.
