Epson Error E-01: Printer error (general fatal error)
Epson lists E-01 as a printer error. Epson's steps point first to a paper jam inside the printer; if there is no jam and it keeps coming back, the printer needs service.
What to try
- Turn the printer off and then back on again.
- If the error returns, check inside the printer for jammed paper and remove it.
- Turn the printer back on and see if the error clears.
- If there is no jam and the error continues, contact Epson support.
When it needs a technician
If E-01 keeps appearing after a restart and there is no paper jam, Epson says to contact Epson for support.
Which models show E-01
Epson documents this code for models including EcoTank ET-2850, EcoTank ET-2760, EcoTank ET-2650, EcoTank ET-4810, Expression XP-340, WorkForce WF-2930, WorkForce WF-110.
Varies by model: On older Stylus models such as the NX330, Epson calls E-01 a 'fatal error' but gives the same steps. Models with a text screen show 'Printer error. Turn the power off and on again.' instead of a code.
First steps for any printer error
- Write down the exact code before you do anything else β similar-looking codes often mean completely different things.
- Power the printer off, unplug it for a couple of minutes, then power it back on. A surprising number of transient errors clear here.
- Open the covers and check for paper scraps, packaging material, or anything blocking the carriage.
- Check the cartridges or tanks are genuine, correctly seated, and not empty.
- Confirm the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip or extension lead.
- Check your modelβs own manual β codes are model-specific, and the manual is the authority for your machine.
