Epson Error W-01: Paper jam
On most current Epson models, W-01 means paper is jammed in the printer.
What to try
- Remove the jammed paper carefully.
- Press the button shown on the LCD screen to clear the error.
- If the error continues, turn the printer off and back on again.
When it needs a technician
If no paper is visible and the error will not clear after a restart, contact Epson support.
Which models show W-01
Epson documents this code for models including EcoTank ET-2850, EcoTank ET-2760, EcoTank ET-2650, EcoTank ET-4810, Expression XP-340, WorkForce WF-2930, Epson M2140, WorkForce WF-110.
Varies by model: On the WorkForce WF-110, W-01 is a jam in the rear paper feed. On the older Stylus NX420W, W-01 instead means parts inside the printer are near or at the end of their service life; contact Epson.
First steps for any printer error
- Write down the exact code before you do anything else — similar-looking codes often mean completely different things.
- Power the printer off, unplug it for a couple of minutes, then power it back on. A surprising number of transient errors clear here.
- Open the covers and check for paper scraps, packaging material, or anything blocking the carriage.
- Check the cartridges or tanks are genuine, correctly seated, and not empty.
- Confirm the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip or extension lead.
- Check your model’s own manual — codes are model-specific, and the manual is the authority for your machine.
