Epson Error 0xEA: Printer error with a 0x code (0xEA, 0x97, 0xF1 and others)

Also shows as: any "Printer error" 0x code, such as 0x97, 0x9A, 0xE8, 0xF1, 0xFA, 0x10 or 0x69. Epson publishes no separate meaning for each one

🧭 Fixable with care

Epson says that if the printer shows 'printer error' with an alphanumeric code like 0xEA, follow its general printer error steps. Epson does not publish a separate meaning for each 0x code.

What to try

  1. Make sure all packing material and tape are removed.
  2. Check that the ink cartridges are installed securely and the cartridge cover is fully closed.
  3. Turn the printer off and disconnect the power.
  4. Open the cover, look for torn or jammed paper, and remove it.
  5. Reconnect the power and turn the printer on.
  6. If the error clears, test it by making a copy from the control panel.

When it needs a technician

If the problem persists, Epson says to contact Epson support with the printer nearby for a telephone diagnostic to confirm the need for repair or replacement.

Which models show 0xEA

Varies by model: Epson treats all 'Printer error 0xXX' codes the same way. Codes like 0x97, 0xF1 or 0xE8 are not individually defined in Epson's public documentation; the L565 and L606 user guides also list 'Printer error 0xXX' with restart and check-for-jam steps.

First steps for any printer error

  1. Write down the exact code before you do anything else — similar-looking codes often mean completely different things.
  2. Power the printer off, unplug it for a couple of minutes, then power it back on. A surprising number of transient errors clear here.
  3. Open the covers and check for paper scraps, packaging material, or anything blocking the carriage.
  4. Check the cartridges or tanks are genuine, correctly seated, and not empty.
  5. Confirm the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip or extension lead.
  6. Check your model’s own manual — codes are model-specific, and the manual is the authority for your machine.
