HP LaserJet E6: Fatal printer error
Also shows as: E6 (LaserJet), E7, E8, E9
With the Attention and Ready lights on, E6 (like E7, E8 and E9) means the printer has had a fatal error it cannot recover from on its own.
What to try
- Turn off the printer or disconnect its power cord.
- Wait three minutes.
- Turn the printer on or reconnect the power cord, and wait for it to initialize.
When it needs a technician
If the error persists, HP says to contact HP customer support.
Which models show LaserJet E6
HP documents this code for models including HP LaserJet Professional M1130 MFP series.
Varies by model: E codes are model specific. Some HP inkjet and Smart Tank printers also show E codes with different meanings.
First steps for any printer error
- Write down the exact code before you do anything else β similar-looking codes often mean completely different things.
- Power the printer off, unplug it for a couple of minutes, then power it back on. A surprising number of transient errors clear here.
- Open the covers and check for paper scraps, packaging material, or anything blocking the carriage.
- Check the cartridges or tanks are genuine, correctly seated, and not empty.
- Confirm the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip or extension lead.
- Check your modelβs own manual β codes are model-specific, and the manual is the authority for your machine.
