Brother Replace Ink: Ink cartridge empty

Brother shows "Replace Ink" when an ink cartridge needs replacing. If the black cartridge is empty, this is the only message and black must be replaced.
What to try
- Open the ink cartridge cover.
- Press the lock release lever for the color shown and remove that cartridge.
- Unpack the new cartridge without touching the marked contact area and insert it in the direction of the label arrow.
- Push the area marked PUSH until it locks, then close the cover.
- If "No Ink Cartridge" or "Cannot Detect" appears, reinstall the cartridge slowly.
