Brother Paper Jam: Inkjet paper jam (Jam A, B or C)
Also shows as: Printer Jam, Jam A Inside/Front, Jam B Front, Jam C Rear, Repeat Jam
✅ Usually fixable yourself
Brother says "Printer Jam" or "Paper Jam" means paper is jammed in the machine. The display names the location, such as Jam A Inside/Front, Jam B Front or Jam C Rear.
What to try
- If your model has fax, transfer stored faxes before unplugging.
- Check the display for the jam location and remove the jammed paper from that area.
- Make sure the paper guides are set to the correct paper size.
- Feed only one sheet at a time in the manual feed slot, and wait for the display prompt before the next sheet.
- For repeat Jam C Rear errors, clean the paper pick-up rollers.
When it needs a technician
Brother lists no service step for a normal paper jam.
Which models show Paper Jam
Brother documents this code for models including MFC-J805DW, MFC-J815DW, MFC-J995DW.
First steps for any printer error
- Write down the exact code before you do anything else — similar-looking codes often mean completely different things.
- Power the printer off, unplug it for a couple of minutes, then power it back on. A surprising number of transient errors clear here.
- Open the covers and check for paper scraps, packaging material, or anything blocking the carriage.
- Check the cartridges or tanks are genuine, correctly seated, and not empty.
- Confirm the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip or extension lead.
- Check your model’s own manual — codes are model-specific, and the manual is the authority for your machine.
