How to Find Your WiFi Password on Your Computer
Forgot your WiFi password? Here is how to find it on Windows and Mac without resetting your router.
Find WiFi Password on Windows 11
Open Settings, then Network and Internet, then WiFi, then your connected network name. Scroll down and click View under WiFi Security Key. Windows 11 shows the password directly. If that option is not available, use the alternative method: open Command Prompt and type netsh wlan show profile name="YourNetworkName" key=clear. Look for the Key Content line under Security Settings. This shows the password in plain text.
Find WiFi Password on Windows 10
Open Control Panel, then Network and Sharing Center. Click your WiFi network name next to Connections. In the WiFi Status window, click Wireless Properties. Go to the Security tab and check the box that says Show Characters. Your WiFi password appears in the Network Security Key field. This method also works for any previously connected network.
Find WiFi Password on Mac
Open the Keychain Access app from Applications, Utilities. In the search bar, type your WiFi network name. Double-click the entry that appears. Check the box that says Show Password. You will need to enter your Mac admin username and password to reveal the WiFi password. Alternatively, open Terminal and type security find-generic-password -wa YourNetworkName and enter your admin credentials when prompted.
Find WiFi Password on Your Router
If you cannot find the password on any computer, you can check the router directly. Log into your router admin panel by typing 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 in your browser. The default admin credentials are usually on a sticker on the bottom of the router. Navigate to Wireless or WiFi Settings to see your current network password. If you have never changed the default password, it is also printed on the router sticker.
