Blue Screen of Death (BSOD): Causes and How to Fix It
A blue screen crash is scary but usually fixable. Here is how to read the error code and resolve the issue.
What Causes a Blue Screen
A BSOD occurs when Windows encounters an error so severe it cannot safely continue. Common causes: faulty drivers, failing hardware, corrupted system files, and incompatible software.
How to Read the Stop Code
Note the stop code like DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or MEMORY_MANAGEMENT. Search this exact code online. IRQL means a driver problem; MEMORY_MANAGEMENT means RAM issue.
Fix 1: Update or Roll Back Drivers
If BSODs started after a driver update, roll back. Open Device Manager, right-click the recently updated device, select Roll Back Driver.
Fix 2: Run Memory Diagnostics
Search for Windows Memory Diagnostic in the Start menu. It will restart and test your RAM. If errors are found, replace the faulty RAM stick.
Fix 3: Check for Overheating
An overheating CPU triggers a thermal shutdown. Download HWMonitor to check temperature. Under load, it should stay below 85°C.
