How to Take a Screenshot on Any Device (Complete Guide)
Every screenshot method on Windows, Mac, iPhone, Android, and Chromebook explained in one place.
Screenshots on Windows 11 and 10
Press Win+Shift+S to open the Snipping Tool overlay. Choose from rectangular snip, freeform snip, window snip, or full-screen snip. The screenshot copies to your clipboard — paste it with Ctrl+V into any app. The Snipping Tool also opens automatically with annotation tools. For a quick full-screen capture, press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) and paste into Paint or any editor. Press Win+PrtScn to save a screenshot directly to Pictures, Screenshots folder without pasting.
Screenshots on Mac
Press Cmd+Shift+3 for a full-screen screenshot saved to your desktop. Press Cmd+Shift+4 to select a specific area — your cursor becomes a crosshair, drag to select. Press Cmd+Shift+4 then Space to capture a specific window — click the window you want. Press Cmd+Shift+5 to open the screenshot toolbar with options for screen recording, timed captures, and choosing where to save. All screenshots save to the desktop by default.
Screenshots on iPhone
On iPhone with Face ID, press the Side Button and Volume Up simultaneously. On iPhone with Home Button, press the Home Button and Power simultaneously. The screenshot appears as a thumbnail in the bottom left corner. Tap it to annotate or crop before saving. To take a scrolling screenshot of an entire web page, take a regular screenshot, tap the thumbnail, then tap Full Page at the top. This captures the entire page, not just what is visible on screen.
Screenshots on Android
Press the Power Button and Volume Down simultaneously on most Android phones. On Samsung, you can also swipe the edge of your hand across the screen. On Pixel phones, press Power and Volume Down or say Hey Google take a screenshot. For scrolling screenshots on Samsung, take a regular screenshot, then tap the scroll capture icon that appears to extend the capture down the page. On Pixel, tap Capture More after taking a screenshot.
