My washing machine is leaking water from the bottom during the spin cycle. There is a puddle on the floor every time I do laundry.

A washer leaking from the bottom during spin is usually caused by a damaged drain hose, a worn tub seal, or a loose pump connection. First check the drain hose at the back — look for cracks, loose clamps, or water dripping from the connection point. Tighten the clamp or replace the hose if damaged. For front-load washers, check the door boot seal (the rubber gasket around the door) for tears, cracks, or debris keeping it from sealing. A torn boot seal costs 30 to 80 dollars to replace. If the leak comes from directly underneath the center of the machine, the tub seal or tub bearing has failed. This repair is more involved and costs 150 to 300 dollars in parts and labor. Place the washer on a towel and run a small load to observe exactly where the water appears — this pinpoints the source.
